Louis XIV is often considered an absolute monarch rather than a dictator. While he held absolute power over France and its people, he did so within the framework of the existing social and political structures of the time. He centralized power in the monarchy and exerted control over the nobility, but he also worked to maintain the stability and prosperity of the country.
